When my oldest was little, she had two favorite channels — and neither were Disney or Nickelodeon. That kid watched the Weather Channel and Food Network like they were going out of style. When I first heard about Zest ‘n Zing, I couldn’t wait to take her.
There just isn’t much out there in the way of family fun for teens. Unfortunately, this year’s Zest ‘n Zing falls on our busiest night of the week. She won’t be home in time to join me for the foodie fun. I’m taking the hubby, which works out because it is geared a little more to grownups.
The $20 admission includes five food tickets and two drink tickets, featuring a selection of local beers and wines. Non-alcoholic beverages do not require a ticket, and you’ll receive a snazzy swag bag filled with practical kitchen goodies. Children are welcome at the Indiana History Center, but at $20 a ticket, I’d only take older kids who may really get into the competition.
At 7pm, two teams will square off in an Iron Chef-style competition. Each team consists of one chef and one farmer, including returning champions Jason Anderson and cattle farmer Ginny Tauer. How fun is that?
The event will be emceed by Paul Poteet and WTHR’s Jennie Runevitch, and one of the judges will be selected right from the audience. That’s right, you’ll have the chance to judge a cooking competition. (Bucket list, anyone?)
Plus, you have the chance to win a pair of tickets right now!
