Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination

If you thought my geek was showing on Star Wars Day when we had the chance to ride in the Millennium Falcon Experience, you should have seen me earlier this week at the media preview for the new Star Wars exhibit at the Indiana State Museum.

You guys, it was unbelievable. There are artifacts and costumes. There are real life characters. There are build-your-own-droid stations and science behind the magic exhibits.

Oh, yes. Star Wars is real! Sort of.

The exhibit features real life examples of science and inventions based on the concepts in Star Wars. Kids (and grownups too!) can build their own robots, learn to walk a droid, and drive an actual hovercraft!

You must be at least 5 years old to drive the vehicle and wear close-toed shoes. (Although they do have some Star Wars-themed Crocs available for those who do not come prepared.) I may have worn Darth Vader Crocs.

Right before Darth Vader himself stalked me down near the real and actual Millennium Falcon. Members of the 501st Legion will be in full costume every weekend — and most likely through the week as well. I spent the day with an Imperial Snowtrooper, Darth Vader, Bounty Hunter Leia, and a few Stormtroopers.

The event officially opens Saturday, May 25th at 10am and runs through September 2nd. Buy your tickets in advance to be sure the time you want isn’t sold out when you arrive. (The first two times at the midnight premier have been sold out for weeks!)

And be sure to budget a little extra cash for the Galactic Trading Post. This is the most epic Star Wars store in the entire galaxy! I kind of want everything and took several pictures to add to my Christmas list. (This purse? Yes, please!)

I just cannot adequately explain how amazing this exhibit is. You’re going to have to see it for yourself! It opens with a midnight premier tonight — and I’ll be there with my Leia buns on. (Squee!)

But for now, here’s a sneak preview, sci-fi trailer style:
